Rays of Sunshine May 25

A reliable ray of sunshine in midcoast Maine–for decades!–is the joy of being part of Maine Fiddle Camp every June and August. The MFC campers and staff include countless Flying Shoes folks–community dancers and contra dancers of all ages, volunteers, All Comers Band musicians, contra musicians, contra callers, and board members. What’s more Maine Fiddle Camp is a BFS contributor. For all these reasons and more, we looooove Maine Fiddle Camp!

This year, they’re taking their brilliant programming to the online plane — with Virtual Maine Fiddle Camp.

In their May 20 update, check out the utterly amazing Maestro Bistro 1 (featuring many familiar BFS folks), read the report on the online crowd at Elaine Malkin’s Quebecois workshop, and enjoy a video tutorial from MFC head chef, Kate Wallace, on an essential camp staple: sourdough bread.

THIS WEEK the Virtual MFC previews continue:

  • Friday, May 29 – Watch another Maestro Bistro, starting at 6pm, with MFC teaching staff and another special guest from the kitchen.
  • Saturday, May 30 – Join a music workshop with Alden Robinson (another familiar BFS face).
  • By Monday, June 1 – Maine Fiddle Campers can submit a video for possible inclusion in the “Virtual MFC” Variety Show.

It’s clear that this year’s camp–June 19-21–will be “the best Maine Fiddle Camp ever!” as usual.  Even so, you might want to (a) mark your calendars for the tentative 2021 dates for MFC, and (b) make a contribution to support the inventive and hardworking MFC staff.
