Join us for contra dancing at American Legion Post #43, 143 Church Street in Belfast! The evening begins at 6:30 pm with a Community Dance called by Chrissy Fowler and with music by the All Comers Band. All musicians are welcome to sit in. Fun and simple dances will be taught, giving beginners the opportunity to learn new skills and offering experienced dancers a chance to brush up on their steps. The Contra Dance begins at 8:00 pm.
This month’s caller–returning to Belfast after a too-long hiatus–is Nils Fredland. For over 20 years Nils has traveled from coast to coast and overseas calling for contra, square, and community dances. He is known across the dance community for his clear teaching and creative programming. With his upbeat, kind, and confidence-inspiring calling, he clicks with dancers of every level of skill and experience.
Currently residing in the verdant hills of Vermont, Spintuition had its start right down the road in Montville, at Maine Fiddle Camp. It was there, in 2017, that Silas Hamilton, Willy Clemetson (a Belfast Flying Shoes board member emeritus), and Samuel Foucher first met and performed together as a trio on stage. The chemistry was too good to ignore, and the three have since played for numerous contra dances and other events in and around Vermont, including the Green River Marathon. Spintuition features original tunes composed by the band’s members while also putting an energetic … um … spin on traditional Irish, French-Canadian, and New England tunes.
