Summer Camps for Dance and Music

Warmer temperatures say “Yes! It’s time to plan for summer.” We have many opportunities to dive in deep with our dance, music, and song traditions at summer camps near and far, including these:

DEFFA Scholarship – APPLY NOW!
DownEast Friends of the Folk Arts (DEFFA) publishes a newsletter, maintains a website, and produces the annual DownEast Country Dance Festival, coming up March 20-21 in Topsham.  DEFFA also offers generous scholarships to the dance & music camps listed below.  Application deadline is March 9, 2020.

CDSS Camps
BFS is an affiliate member of the Country Dance & Song Society (CDSS), which has camp offerings in N.H., Plymouth MA, Maryland, and Michigan. (Early music, English dance, American dance, Harmony of song & dance, Family weeks, and a bit of everything at once.) Additional CDSS scholarships available.

Maine Fiddle Camp
Many Flying Shoes folks attend the all-ages MFC – as campers, staff, or both – immersing in the varied music traditions of Downeast Maine. Week long and weekend camps in June and week long camps in August, just down the road in Montville, Maine. Additional MFC scholarships available.

Mainewoods Dance Camp
Dance and music from many cultures around the world, including Macedonia, Mexico, Bulgaria, Turkey, Israel, and Scotland. Two August camps in Fryeburg, Maine.  Additional Mainewoods scholarships available.

Acadia Trad Festival
Week long summer music school focused on the Irish, Scottish, Québecois, Acadian, Cajun, Old-Time and Cape Breton styles.  June 28-July 3 in Bar Harbor, Maine.  Additional Acadia Trad scholarships available.
