Rock and Roll Contra Dance

Fab Eight

ROCKPORT, ME – Belfast Flying Shoes presents an incomparable dance event—a Rock & Roll Contra—at the Rockport Opera House on Sunday, October 7, at 7 pm.

Rick Mohr, acclaimed caller from the City of Brotherly Love, leads contra dances to music by the “Fab Eight”, whose multi-instrumentalists hail from beloved local ensembles including Henry Road, the Oshima Brothers, Primo Cubano, and Mostly Brothers. The “Fab Eight” are John Pranio, Paul D’Alessio, Glen Loper, Toki Oshima, Sean Oshima, Jamie Oshima, and Alex Wilder. Eric Weest Johnson is providing sound.

The band begins each medley with a traditional dance tune; then they cleverly segue to harmony-laden songs that just might knock your bobby socks off. Bring clean shoes, a water bottle, friends, and a joyful heart. Skinny ties optional.

This Belfast Flying Shoes outreach event is supported in part by a grant from the Maine Expansion Arts Fund of the Maine Community Foundation. The Rockport Opera House is at 6 Central Street in Rockport. Tickets are $10-20, sliding scale, and are available at the door. Info: [email protected] or 207-338-0979.
