September 11, 2025 @ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Special potpourri of English Country Dance (ECD), accompanied by extraordinary music from Peregrine Road (Rachel Bell on accordion and Karen Axelrod on piano). The dances will be led by fledgling English caller, Maura McCampbell, who has organized several pop-up English dances in unexpected locations in Belfast. Joining Maura behind the mic will be seasoned dance leader, Chrissy Fowler, who loves English dancing and is excited to bring that repertoire to the front of her caller’s box. Join us for this rare opportunity to dance ECD in Belfast, and enjoy this stellar band that’s winging their way toward Midcoast Maine! Thursday, the 11th of September, at 7:00pm at the UU Church, 37 Miller St in Belfast. Admission is $15-25.
Experience the delightful breadth of English dance repertoire: energetic and regal, frisky and deliberate, simple figures and slightly challenging sequences. Vive la différence!
ECD is a folk tradition similar to our local contra culture, emphasizing both participatory dancing and live music, with partners and neighbors dancing together in a set. You may have seen Regency-era dancing in period films like “Pride & Prejudice”. Contemporary English dancing keeps the gorgeously varied music and smiling people, and skips the restrictive costumes.
