English Country Dance May 2026

English Country Dance (ECD) with glorious live music by Pegasus Collective (Cecily Mills, Steven Bluestein, Peter Subramanian & Sam Zakon-Anderson) and cheerful calling by David Smukler. Join the fun on Sunday, May 17, from 2:00 – 5:00 pm at the Unitarian Universalist (UU) Church, 37 Miller St in Belfast. Admission is $15-25, and includes punch & crunch. The program begins with a very brief intro session to welcome those who are new to ECD.
Experience the delightful breadth of English dance repertoire: energetic and regal, frisky and deliberate, simple figures and slightly challenging sequences. Vive la différence!
ECD is a folk tradition similar to our local contra culture, emphasizing both participatory dancing and live music, with partners and neighbors dancing together in a set. Contemporary English dancing has gorgeously varied music and smiling people, with choreography that feels like floating (whether gliding on thermals or being propelled down a river at full spring thaw flood levels – whee!)
