English Country Dance January 2026

Extraordinary evening of English Country Dance (ECD) with glorious music by B&B (Benjamin Foss on fiddle & Bethany Waickman on piano) and cheerful calling by Maura McCampbell & Chrissy Fowler. Join the fun on Sunday, January 25 from 3:00-6:00 pm at the Unitarian Universalist (UU) Church, 37 Miller St in Belfast. Admission is $15-25, and includes punch & crunch. The program begins with a brief intro session to welcome those who are new to ECD.
Experience the delightful breadth of English dance repertoire: energetic and regal, frisky and deliberate, simple figures and slightly challenging sequences. Vive la différence!
ECD is a folk tradition similar to our local contra culture, emphasizing both participatory dancing and live music, with partners and neighbors dancing together in a set. Contemporary English dancing has gorgeously varied music and smiling people, with choreography that feels like floating (whether gliding on thermals or being propelled down a river at full spring thaw flood levels – whee!)
