The All Comers Band’s “set of the month” for November 2018 is The Old Favorite (trad)/Le Tourment (Jean-Paul Loyer)
I love the way you can transition seamlessly between these two jigs, with the repetitive (and usually hard to transition away from) ending of The Old Favorite dropping gracefully to the first note of Le Tourment Please note that we will play Le Tourment in G and starting on the part that rises. This is how it’s commonly played in many places due to an early recording by Ojnab. (Note: This is not in C, starting on the lower part, as it appears in the Portland Collection.) Listen to the recording or look at the sheet music to clear up the confusion I’m sowing!
