Magnetic North: Cardinal Direction to Play Belfast Flying Shoes 11th Birthday Contra Dance Friday, December 2, 2016, with Caller Will Mentor

Join us for an evening of contra dancing–and celebrate our 11th birthday!–at American Legion Post #43, 143 Church Street in Belfast. The evening begins at 6:30 pm with a Community Dance called by Chrissy Fowler and with music by the All-Comers Band. All musicians are welcome to sit in. Fun and simple dances will be taught, giving beginners the opportunity to learn new skills and offering experienced dancers a chance to brush up on their steps. The Contra Dance begins at 8:00 pm. We’ll break out the fruit and cookies at our mid-dance intermission.

Cardinal Direction

From the band’s website: “Cardinal Direction (formerly Firefly) brings beautiful melodies and relentless energy to dance floors and listening audiences across the Northeast. Their repertoire is drawn from the Irish, New England, and Quebecois traditions, and seamlessly mixes oldies-but-goodies with modern compositions.”

Supporting Cedar Stanistreet (on fiddle) and Rebecca Bosworth-Clemens (on clarinet and banjo) with fresh Maine-made grooves will be local favorite Jamie Oshima on guitar, piano, and foot percussion.
